Carlo Ancelotti has left Pedro out of Brazil’s World Cup squad, but the Flamengo striker could yet be involved. According to Seleção SporTV, he and Thiago Silva are first in line for any late replacements, regarded as safe options after previous caps.

Pedro featured at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar under Tite. The number nine made four appearances without scoring, though he converted his kick in the shootout loss to Croatia as Rodrygo and Militão missed.

Brazil’s squad includes four Flamengo representatives, named as Lucas Paquetá, Danilo, Léo Pereira and Alex Sandro.

Beyond Pedro, Ancelotti has placed Léo Ortiz and Samuel Lino on the standby list. Goalkeeper Léo Nannetti from Flamengo’s academy has been invited to train with the World Cup group.

Pedro remains available for Flamengo’s next outing, a Libertadores Group A tie against Estudiantes of Argentina on Wednesday 20 at Maracanã. Kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time.
