Brazil U23 international Wellington has made an exciting claim after completing his Southampton transfer this week. He will arrive with full fitness.

Southampton face an uphill battle between now and the end of the season. While a lot of people have understandably written the Saints off, it is within the club's best interest to at least fight to turn things around.

Nevertheless, Southampton will need their Saints to be in full fitness between now and the season. While the campaign can't get much worse, injuries definitely wouldn't help Ivan Juric's case.

Thankfully, Southampton have been handed a fitness boost from their new signing.

According to a report from Alfie House of the Daily Echo, Wellington will arrive at Southampton with full match fitness. The season in Brazil ended at the end of 2024, so Wellington has been working on his fitness ahead of hopefully representing Southampton.

Wellington said: "In Brazil, the season ends at the end of the year. I was able to prepare well to come here physically ready to compete in the Premier League straight away. I have been working hard to make sure I arrived in top shape."

Furthermore, Wellington has spoke about his excitement to play for Southampton. He has described the experience as one which will greatly help his personal development as a player.

Continuing, Wellington said: “I'm very happy to be here, representing this club. I'm really happy to be here playing in the Premier League. Being here I want to give my all. I was really happy the offer came my way. I think this final stretch of the Premier League will be really good for me and I am very happy to be here."

Time will tell how much playing time Wellington gets for Southampton. However, at this stage, any arrival is an exciting one. Without a doubt, Ivan Juric should give Wellington a chance - It would only then be a case of whether he can compete with Ryan Manning.
