Brazilian clubs approve phased cut to foreign-player quotas, Flamengo vote against | OneFootball

The Série A and Série B clubs have approved a phased reduction to the foreign-player quota, to be introduced from 2027 and tightened each year until 2030.

UOL reports that Flamengo were the only club to vote against the proposal.

Under the new timetable, the quota is set at eight in 2027, seven in 2028, six in 2029 and five in 2030.

Flamengo currently have 10 foreign players in their senior squad, placing them above the initial 2027 limit. The club have time to adjust over the next seasons, whether through natural contract expiry or internal decisions.

The reduction is expected to create more opportunities for Brazilian players across the two divisions, although it could complicate moves for overseas signings in the short term. Discussion around the change is likely to continue as clubs reshape squads to meet the new thresholds.
