Following the year’s first international break, Real Madrid are set to resume their campaign later today as they take on Leganes.

This promises to be a tricky affair for coach Carlo Ancelotti, who will have to manage his squad optimally as multiple players would be returning from international break.

Therefore, it won’t be surprising to see a few South American stars not feature in the starting eleven and one of them could be Rodrygo.

Rodrygo to start on the bench vs Leganes

According to Diario AS, Ancelotti is expected to bench one of the Brazilians heading into the Leganes game, as he keeps one eye on next week’s Copa Del Rey encounter against Real Sociedad.

The report adds that between Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, the latter has more chance of being benched against Leganes.

Rodrygo won’t be the only South American star to be benched either, with the report claiming that even Federico Valverde might not be a starter against the Canaries.

Real Madrid, though, have enough firepower to replace Rodrygo’s explosive services in the final third.

Although Vinicius has faced immense criticism for his performances with the Brazilian national team, he remains one of the potential difference-maker ahead of this tie.

Focus will be on Kylian Mbappe, as well, as the Frenchman slowly takes on the responsibility of being Real Madrid’s frontline striker.

As for Rodrygo, the Brazilian international might have to settle for a place on the bench. But that’s not to say that he may not appear later in the game. He can, in fact, be an excellent sub to have for coach Ancelotti.

Not to mention, Rodrygo could make a push for a place in the starting eleven against Sociedad in the Copa Del Rey next week.
