The draw is done – Chelsea will take on PSG in the Champions League round of 16.
It’s been some time since we faced the French giants in Europe’s top competition – but between 2014 and 2016 we faced them three times in a row in the knockout stages. After beating them the first time with a memorable late Demba Ba goal, we lost the subsequent two.
If Chelsea are able to beat PSG over two legs, they will then face the winner of the Liverpool – Galatasaray game. Win that, and it’s Real Madrid, Man City, Atalanta or Bayern Munich in the semis.
We’re certainly on the harder side of the draw, although it’s pretty evenly balanced.

PSG are obviously a very strong side – they’re the holders, and were superb en route to winning the competition last year. But they’re struggling to find form this season, and we certainly have a chance against them. Let’s not forget, we schooled them in the Club World Cup back in the summer.
Newcastle, our other option at this stage, certainly wouldn’t have been much easier, and we’re happy we get a couple of games against proper European royalty rather than facing a domestic side.
The first leg is just two weeks away…
Liam Rosenior’s antics against Arsenal the last time we faced them created some headlines, and Jamie Carragher has had his say on them here.
