As we close in on January, transfer rumours are finally getting hot, and the Premier League’s hottest property without doubt right now is Antoine Semenyo.
January doesn’t usually see big deals made between Premier League teams, but Semenyo is an exceptional because he has a release clause which keeps his price around a reasonable £65m. The last few days saw heavy rumours claiming that both Manchester United and Manchester City were in the race for the Bournemouth winger, looking to boost their attack mid season.
We were somewhat surprised that Chelsea weren’t being put in the mix for Semenyo, who is having a brilliant season and looks like one of the most dangerous attackers in the league. Well here we are just a couple of days later and we now have top source David Ornstein claiming that the Blues are indeed a suitor for the Ghana international.

Chelsea join major chase Antoine Semenyo according to top insider David Ornstein.
Athletic writer David Ornstein has claimed that Chelsea have made an “initial enquiry” over Semenyo, finding out from his camp what the attacker would want in terms of wages.
Ornstein adds that Chelsea intended to add an attacker next summer, so this would simply be moving that plan forward. Other reporting around the deal has claimed that Semenyo’s January clause must be activated by January 10th in order to allow his club time to find a replacement.
That means we could see a real ramping up in terms of the chase to sign him in the next week or two. This window might be about to go from 0 to 100, with Chelsea’s previous plans to not make any major moves suddenly being torn up as they get involved in the race for one of the league’s most in demand players.
