Breaking down the April 2026 schedule for Gotham FC in the NWSL

Article image:Breaking down the April 2026 schedule for Gotham FC in the NWSL

The first month of the 2026 campaign is officially over for NJ/NY Gotham FC, and the ladies have played their first four matches of the season. Sadly, the start has been less than ideal, for the team has gone 1-1-2 and currently sits in ninth place in the NWSL. Yes, it is early, but it is vital that things begin to change, and as soon as possible.

While Gotham FC has not scored in their last three games, the performance in the draw against the Orlando Pride was somewhat promising in how they played. But they need to score goals in April. Otherwise, the NJ/NY side will fall down the table and be put in a tough spot once the month is complete. It does not help either that they will play two road matches and just one at home.

Although, it is quite possible that the team is better on the road since they have yet to earn a win at home. In the meantime, let's take a look at the three games Gotham FC will play in April.

Gotham FC's April 2026 schedule

Saturday, April 4: Gotham FC at Kansas City Current

The first road game in April will be a rematch of the quarterfinals of the NWSL Playoffs. Gotham FC will play the Kansas City Current, the reigning NWSL Shield winners. Nobody thought that the Current would exit the playoffs in the first round, and likely, they will seek revenge. However, the home side is not having a good start in 2026 either, for they have one win and three losses. This might be an opportune time for the Bats to face them, but they need to deal with their own issues as well. Alas, it would be good to enter the international break with a win.

Saturday, April 25: Gotham FC vs Bay FC

Due to a longer international break, Gotham will not play again until April 25 when they welcome Bay FC to town. The teams ended their last meeting in a draw, while the home side won the last meeting at Sports Illustrated Stadium. Additionally, the Bats are unbeaten in four games against Bay. This means history is on their side, and ideally, the team will win their first home fixture of 2026. At the same time, the California team has had a decent start to their season, winning twice and losing once. With new players like Cristiana Girelli and Claire Hutton, Bay will probably be even more difficult to beat compared to the last two years.

Wednesday, April 29: Gotham FC at Chicago Stars FC

The final game of April will be against Chicago Stars FC, and like the last few seasons, the Windy City side is not expected to do well in 2026. The NJ/NY team has not lost to their opponents in the regular season since 2022, but that also ended both fixtures in 2025 in draws. As such, Gotham FC will want to earn all three points. They need to beat teams that they should win against on paper, and Chicago is one of those teams.
