Cristian Fiél has been sacked by 2. Bundesliga Hertha BSC after a fourth successive defeat to Dusseldorf yesterday, according to Sky Sports DE.
Berlin side, Hertha find themselves 14th in 2. Bundesliga, just five points above the relegation zone and with just one league win in 2025.
After the battling defeat on Saturday, Fiél was subdued:
“I’m not expecting anything. If the results are what they are, it doesn’t help that the team is alive,” said the 44-year-old, who was sacked after eight months in charge.
“Football can be bitter in such moments.
“We’ll see [what happens with my future]. But if you lose four out of five games, you don’t have many arguments,” said the former Nuremberg coach.
Hertha moved quickly after the defeat.
On Saturday afternoon, Sky reported that former Hannover 96 coach, Leitl will succeed Fiél as coach in Berlin.
This was confirmed on Sunday morning.
Leitl managed Hannover 96 for 89 games until December 2024, when he was dismissed after a goalless draw with his new employers.
Leitl will be supported by assistant coach Andre Mijatovic , a former Hertha professional.
Fiél is said to have been informed of the decision to part ways last night.
The Old Lady of Berlin will be hoping that Leitl brings Hertha a new lease of life.
