Former Orlando Pirates boss Jose Riveiro has been appointed as the new head coach of Swedish giants AIK Fotboll.
The Spanish mentor had been unattached after he was axed by Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly, three months into the job.
Riveiro registered one win in the seven outings he oversaw in charge of the Red Devils across all competitions, including the FIFA Club World Cup.
In contrast, he enjoyed a successful spell with Pirates, guiding the club to five domestic cup titles and three consecutive runners-up finishes in the Betway Premiership.
Despite being tipped to succeed Hugo Broos at Bafana Bafana, Riveiro has taken up a new project with the 12-time Allsvenskan champions.
The 50-year-old tactician has put pen to paper on a two-year deal that's set to run until December 2028.
“I am very proud and happy to be part of a club that truly lives and breathes football. AIK is a club with strong identity, high ambitions, and an enormous passion around the team,” Riveiro told the club's website.
"Now I am really looking forward to getting started, building relationships and working closely with the players and my colleagues to develop the team everyday and take the next step both individually and collectively.
With the start of the 2026 Allsvenskan fast approaching, AIK will be hoping to qualify for Europe after missing out by four points last season.
