Michelle Agyemang is about to get her second season with Brighton and Hove Albion under way – and manager Dario Vidosic couldn’t be more delighted.
Lionesses hero Agyemang spent time on loan at the club last season, which clearly stood her in good stead as she headed into the 2025 Women’s Euros with England, scoring equalisers against Sweden in the quarter-finals and Italy in the semi-final and picking up the young player of the tournament award.
And although some may have raised an eyebrow at Arsenal allowing Agyemang to return to the coast on another season-long loan in 2025-26, getting more game time at senior level is going to be great for her development – and she’s settled right back in.
“It’s easy for her, because she was here with us last season, so she has those friendships, those bonds that have already been created, knowing each other on the field and off the field, so I think it becomes a lot easier,” Vidosic told SheKicks.net in his press conference on Thursday morning.
“She doesn’t really feel like a new signing because she was with us last season! The growth that she’s had from last season, from the Euros as well, what she’s done with the national team, winning it, she’s come in very, very determined. She knows her ambitions are high for this season, she wants to continue, and we’re going to help her as much as we can to progress and maximise her talent.”
And Vidosic has no concerns that Agyemang will feel too much pressure now she’s more in the spotlight.
“She’s a kid that just loves to play football,” he said. “I’ll try to protect her as much as possible.
“I understand the fascination and that everyone wants to see her, and the excitement – because she’s an excitement machine when she plays, she’s got that moment of magic, she’s got that nose for goal she displayed last season and also at the Euros, on one of the biggest stages.
“We’re excited for her but we know she’s still young, so she’ll probably face some ups and downs, she still needs to experience a lot of things.
“Attention will be a lot closer to her so it’s something she’ll need to learn how to deal with, but I’ve got no doubt she’ll be a very important player for us this season.”
Brighton begin their Women’s Super League campaign against Aston Villa on Sunday, 7th September, kicking off at 2pm at the Broadfield Stadium.
