Pep Guardiola has broken his silence after Manchester City were found guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules, with the former City boss insisting he remains fully behind the club.

Guardiola, who left City at the end of last season after 10 years in charge, posted on social media: “I want every single Man City fan to know I am here; more than ever.

“I am, always have been, always will be, behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters. Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all.”

The Premier League announced on Tuesday that an independent commission had found City guilty of all charges relating to serious financial breaches over a nine-season period between 2009/10 and 2017/18, as well as the majority of charges relating to the club's failure to cooperate with the league's investigation.

The charges, brought in February 2023 after a four-year investigation, covered allegations including providing inaccurate financial information, failing to properly report player and manager payments, breaching financial regulations and failing to cooperate with the Premier League. The commission also found that City used contracts which misrepresented agreements with commercial partners, artificially inflating revenues and reducing costs by more than £900 million during the period under investigation.

City have consistently denied wrongdoing and said the Premier League process remains ongoing. The club is expected to appeal the findings.

Guardiola's tenure overlapped with the final two seasons covered by the financial allegations, although there has been no suggestion that he was aware of any wrongdoing. He repeatedly defended City during the investigation, and in May, shortly before his departure, said he trusted the club's hierarchy and believed they had behaved correctly
