It was a pretty miserable week for Chelsea last week, with two damaging defeats in a row.
Now we’ve reached Monday, but even more bad news is being piled on. Ben Jacobs and Nizaar Kinsella are among those reporting on an incoming transfer ban for the Blues.
The Premier League have fined the club £10.75m for “historic agent payments.” That’s painful enough, but what makes it much worse is the “immediate nine month academy transfer ban.”
The fine is the highest ever imposed by the Premier League, almost doubling the previous record. There is also a suspended sentence for first team transfers which will last for two years.
All of these breaches relate to events under the Roman Abramovich ownership, and were self-reported by the new owners when they took over in 2022. A statement from the club points out their role in bringing the incidents to light:
“Additional evidence was provided to the club by a third party regarding potential breaches of Premier League rules committed by a former employee in a small number of historical academy transactions. This information was immediately and proactively self-reported to the Premier League.”
The first rumours about Liam Rosenior getting sacked have arrived – they sound like nonsense, but it’s still not a great sign.
Liam Delap’s last 34 shots for Chelsea in one compilation makes pretty painful viewing, let’s be honest.
