The San Jose Earthquakes have announced the signing of striker Timo Werner from Red Bull Leipzig.
Werner won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 and has scored 24 goals in 57 appearances with the German national team. He has also registered 153 club goals at the senior level across 446 total appearances for Leipzig, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Stuttgart.
However, following an 18-month loan spell with Tottenham Hotspur, the 29-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at Leipzig. As a result, he has only played 13 minutes in the Bundesliga this season.
San Jose head coach Bruce Arena will be hoping Werner can fill the void at centre-forward left by Josef Martínez, who recently departed for Liga MX side Tijuana.
