Breel Embolo has left Rennes after one season to join Atlanta United on a four-year deal, the MLS club confirmed his arrival on Sunday.
He has signed through to the end of the 2029-30 season. According to L'Équipe, the move is worth around €17m before bonuses, which would make it the third-biggest purchase in MLS history.
The Switzerland international, capped 92 times, departs Ligue 1 a year after moving from Monaco to Rennes for €13m.
Born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, he came through at Basel, then impressed in the Bundesliga with Schalke and Borussia Mönchengladbach before heading to Ligue 1 with Monaco in 2022. He spent three seasons there before joining Rennes.
Embolo scored 10 goals in 34 appearances for the Breton club.
This summer he delivered a strong World Cup, recording two goals and two assists for Switzerland, who were eliminated by Argentina in the quarter-finals.
