Breel Embolo left out of Switzerland squad for Nations League matches | OneFootball

After captain Granit Xhaka was excluded earlier in the week, Breel Embolo has also been left out of Switzerland’s squad for Nations League matches.

Switzerland face North Macedonia on Saturday at 20:45. According to L'Équipe, the Swiss federation announced Embolo’s removal on Friday without giving reasons, and the outlet added that domestic media in Switzerland have reported the Atlanta United forward, who plays in MLS, was fined in November 2025 for presenting false Covid test certificates during the pandemic, a sanction he only recently disclosed to officials.

Embolo had initially been called up for this Nations League window before being dropped.

Xhaka was already stood down for using fake vaccination certificates. He said he had felt anxious and doubtful during the pandemic and was wary of the vaccine.

The Swiss federation said his case would be reconsidered after the next international window.
