Breel Embolo (28) has been the subject of significant contract speculation in recent months, with the Swiss international linked with moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich. With his contract expiring at the end of next season, that speculation is likely to continue unless he signs a new contract.
Speaking back in October, Embolo suggested he was keen on signing a new contract with the Principality club. “It doesn’t depend just on me. When we have talks, we’ll see what comes of them,” added the Swiss international. He has quickly struck up a strong relationship with new signing Mika Biereth and has become a key component in Monaco’s charge towards securing UEFA Champions League qualification once again. That is despite intense competition for places. He is one of four strikers currently in the roster, with the Swiss international competing with Biereth, George Ilenikhena, and now Folarin Balogun, who has returned following shoulder surgery.
First and foremost, this is Embolo’s focus. “My future is giving my all, like everyone else at the club, to qualify for the Champions League. Whether that is with or without me, we will see. My goal is to finish the season well like last year,” he said in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
“He has a contract until 2026. Now, everyone at the club has their focus on the final period. Everyone is focused on achieving the big goals – to be in the Champions League next year. He is under contract until 2026, and that is all I want to say,” added Adi Hütter. The question of Embolo’s future will seemingly have to wait until after the end of the season.
