Borussia Dortmund are set to sell Ömer Toprak as the new season begins.
The Bundesliga club won the DFL Supercup last weekend but their campaign begins in earnest on Friday, when they visit Uerdingen in the DFB Pokal.
However, there are still transfer details to sort out before the end of the month.
Maximilian Phillip is likely to leave the club, while offers would also be entertained for Shinji Kagawa.
It is Ömer Toprak, though, who has attracted interest out of nowhere this week.
The defender, who started just one Bundesliga game last season, has had an impressive pre-season and impressed in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat of Bayern Munich.
Despite that, he now looks set to join Werder Bremen.
The Bundesliga club are willing to pay around €5m for the 30-year-old, according to widespread reports in Germany.
Those claims have been confirmed by local Dortmund media source Ruhr Nachrichten, who say Toprak is on the verge of leaving.
Having signed Mats Hummels, Dortmund are well-stocked in defence. The German is likely to partner Manuel Akanji on a regular basis, with Dan-Axel Zagadou, Julian Weigl and Leonardo Balerdi kept in reserve.
