Brendan Rodgers’ brilliant response to Scott Brown’s Celtic red card

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has commented on Scott Brown’s dismissal during a Celtic Legends game during the International break. The Celtic Legend captained a Hoops XI in the Wim Jansen Cup against Feyenoord, which finished 2-1; however, in the closing stages of the match, Brown was shown a red card.

It looked to be a perfectly timed tackle but the Dutch ref pointed to the spot, which resulted in a fiery rebuke from Brown and Barry Robson, which might have resulted in the red card being shown.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Brendan seemed to see the funny side of the whole thing, offering an explanation on behalf of his former captain.

“I haven’t seen the why, but I could probably imagine that he’s still super competitive, even though he’s been finished playing now for a few years.

“But he will never lose that competitive edge and maybe coming on to going onto foreign soils wasn’t quite the same attitude that maybe they expect over there.

“But a great guy, amazing servant for Celtic and I’m glad to see he’s still got those competitive juices running through him.”

Broony was an iconic player for Celtic and a big part of that was his hard tackling and no-nonsense approach to games. It was often lost given that image that he was a quality player with a strong engine, which resulted in the incredible career that he enjoyed with Celtic.

Brown has often been touted as a future Celtic manager given his sensational time as a player at the club. He is currently building up experience with Ayr United, having enjoyed success with Fleetwood Town.
