Former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is preparing to face supporters again, with an upcoming live event offering him an opportunity to discuss two of the most controversial chapters of his managerial career.

Celtic fans could finally hear Rodgers explain his two controversial departures from Parkhead

According to Celts Are Here, A Celtic State of Mind (ACSOM) will host an exclusive evening with the Northern Irishman at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on June 14, 2027.

The event, titled ‘An Audience with Brendan Rodgers’, was officially confirmed by host Paul John Dykes. He revealed that he and co-host Tony Haggerty personally approached Rodgers to discuss the idea and secure his participation.

They intended to provide the former Celtic boss with a proper welcome back, allowing him to revisit his achievements, experiences and difficult moments during his time in Glasgow. However, supporters will have particular interest in one subject. His departures.

Rodgers left Celtic for Leicester City in February 2019, abandoning a team chasing another domestic treble. His decision angered sections of the support, particularly because of the timing and circumstances surrounding his exit. He subsequently returned to Parkhead in June 2023, replacing Ange Postecoglou after the Australian joined Tottenham Hotspur.

Although his second spell brought further domestic success, his relationship with sections of the Celtic support remained complicated. Eventually, Rodgers departed again in October 2025 following growing tensions surrounding the club’s direction and his relationship with the hierarchy.

His subsequent criticism of the board’s sporting structure added another dimension to an already difficult situation. Consequently, this Glasgow appearance carries considerably more interest than an ordinary football discussion.

Tickets for the event go on sale on October 2, 2026, giving supporters an opportunity to attend an evening that could produce several revealing exchanges.

Can Celtic supporters finally get the answers they deserve?

For Celtic, allowing Rodgers to discuss his departures publicly presents an interesting situation. The club’s supporters have spent years debating his decisions, particularly his first departure when he walked away during an important period of the campaign.

However, the second exit created different questions about the relationship between the manager and the board.

Rodgers has previously expressed concerns about the club’s structure, recruitment arrangements and sporting ambitions. Therefore, supporters will naturally want specific explanations rather than another round of carefully prepared statements.

In my opinion, this event could provide valuable closure, provided Rodgers approaches the discussion with genuine openness.

He deserves an opportunity to explain his decisions, while supporters deserve answers about circumstances that affected their relationship with him. Neither side benefits from another public exchange of accusations.

Nevertheless, ACSOM must ensure the evening allows difficult questions rather than simply celebrating Rodgers’ achievements. His domestic trophies deserve recognition, but his departures form an equally significant part of his Celtic story.

Celtic should have little reason to fear an honest discussion about their history. However, turning this appearance into a platform for settling old arguments would serve nobody.

Rodgers has an opportunity to explain himself directly to the people who once sang his name. Whether he accepts that responsibility will determine how supporters remember this particular evening.
