Brenden Aaronson will learn today whether his World Cup bid is successful, and he believes two Leeds United team-mates can turn their disappointment into motivation for next season. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the United States are set to name their squad later today and the attacker is expected to be involved.

Aaronson, 25, featured for the USMNT in the October, November and March international windows. He has 57 caps and nine goals, and made four appearances at the 2022 World Cup. His name has also surfaced on a purported leaked list.

If selected he would join Switzerland's Noak Okafor and Sweden's Gabi Gudmundsson as Leeds representatives at the tournament. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach missed out with England and Germany respectively.

Calvert-Lewin scored 14 goals and was central to Leeds' approach as a targetman. Stach created a huge number of chances, showed his defensive quality and added five goals. Aaronson said he was devastated for both, felt they deserved to go, and thought the setback would fuel them next season.

On his own prospects, he said he would be super excited if picked. Playing at a home World Cup with his family present would be a dream and something he would not forget.
