Everton missed the chance to grab their first Premier League victory of the season after being held to a 1-1 draw at Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Frank Lampard's side led for much of the game but had to dig in deep to keep out a resilient Bees side, before they were eventually breached by a late goal from substitute Vitaly Janelt.

Brentford hit the woodwork three times throughout the afternoon, with Mathias Jensen's 20-yard strike after 18 minutes the first instance.

Thomas Frank's men were forced to pay for their early wastefulness when a simple ball over the top of a makeshift backline including the returning Zanka was met by Anthony Gordon, who slotted past David Raya excellently.

An Ivan Toney header crashed against the crossbar soon after that opener, and Yoane Wissa was somehow unable to keep his free volley at an open goal from five yards out down.

Christian Norgaard's second-half volley was the next strike to thunder against Jordan Pickford's bar as Brentford's dominance continued.

With six minutes remaining, the west Londoners finally found a leveller through Janelt, who was able to poke home after a header back across from Keane Lewis-Potter following a corner.

Frank (the Danish one) threw on Mads Bech Sorensen to try and utilise his long throws, but Everton survived a nervy finish to escape the Gtech Community Stadium with a point.
