Brentford 2 Wolves 2: Kayode scores first Bees goal in draw | OneFootball

Michael Kayode's first Brentford goal and Igor Thiago's 19th strike of the season were not enough, as Wolverhampton Wanderers came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Gtech Community Stadium.

Kayode headed home the opener, before Thiago - who received his first call-up to the Brazil national team earlier on Monday evening - put the Bees in the driving seat in west London. But goals from Adam Armstrong and Tolu Arokodare saw the points shared in the Premier League fixture.

Keith Andrews made two changes for Monday night's clash: Sepp van den Berg and Mathias Jensen came into the team, with Kristoffer Ajer and Yehor Yarmoliuk dropping to the bench.

Mikkel Damsgaard had the opening chance of the game on 10 minutes. Jensen robbed the ball from Ladislav Krejčí in midfield, before passing to his compatriot. Damsgaard played a one-two with Ouattara but, after receiving the ball inside the box, fired over with a side-footed effort.

The hosts had plenty of possession and territory, and their control of the game paid off in the 22nd minute when Kayode headed home the opener. Keane Lewis-Potter picked up the ball in a wide area and whipped a fantastic, inswinging cross into the six-yard box; Thiago couldn't quite reach it, but the Bees' right-back was just behind him and he glanced in from close range.

After almost heading in moments earlier, Thiago had a similar chance, which most were surprised the division's second-top goalscorer didn't finish. After some neat footwork, Ouattara clipped a cross into the box, which the centre-forward rose highest to meet, but the ball skewed off his head and wide.

But Thiago soon got his goal, thanks to more good work from Ouattara. A ball over the top from Caoimhín Kelleher was controlled exquisitely by the Burkinabé international, who carried the ball into the penalty area and slid it across to his team-mate. It was practically an open goal for Thiago, who duly finished for his 19th league goal of the season.

And he was inches away from no.20. A long throw-in from Kayode was flicked on by van den Berg to Thiago, but another header from the 24-year-old just clipped the outside of the post.

A good move from Wolves pulled one back just before half-time. André picked the ball up from the goalkeeper and progressed it well through midfield to Jean-Ricner Bellegarde. The ball was then played to Adam Armstrong, whose neat touch got him into some space on the edge of the box, before he curled into the back of the net for his first league goal for the visitors.

Wolves started the second half stronger, keeping the ball well and creating a few opportunities. Jackson Tchatchoua initially had the best of those, when a cross picked him out at the far post, but his volley was held comfortably by Kelleher.

Tchatchoua was involved again and almost created the equaliser. Angel Gomes flicked the ball into the final third, which Armstrong somehow managed to latch onto. He fed it out to the Wolves full-back, who played it back into the striker, and his shot bounced off the post.

Rob Edwards' side continued to push, and A Gomes had a half-volley whistle just wide of the post with 15 minutes to play.

Wolves got the goal their chances arguably deserved, when André lifted a ball towards the far post and substitute Arokodare beat Ajer to the ball and tucked in from inside the six-yard box.

Arokodare had only been on the pitch for five minutes but could have had a brace. Another cross into the box was met more powerfully by the Wolves centre-forward this time, and his header thumped the crossbar before bouncing down and away.

Reiss Nelson had a massive opportunity as the game ticked into the 90th minute. A Jordan Henderson cross was whipped across the six-yard box, where Nelson evaded his marker and had the goal at his mercy. He headed the ball onto his shoulder, and the ball agonisingly dribbled past the post.
