The club said it has secured fresh investment and appointed senior Blackstone executive Prakash Melwani and Universal Music Group chairman and chief executive Sir Lucian Grainge to the ownership board of Best Intentions Analytics (BIA), which owns Brentford and Mérida AD.
They join minority shareholders Gary Lubner and Sir Matthew Vaughn, both of whom have increased their stakes. Majority control remains with Matthew Benham, who assumed full ownership in 2012.
The structure was reshaped in February 2025 when Benham moved his shares into newly formed BIA to attract investment while preserving the long-term plan. In July 2025, Lubner and Vaughn became minority shareholders via This Day Sports and Media Limited and MARV Bee Limited.
Chief executive and BIA chair Jon Varney said the additions strengthen Brentford’s long-term ambitions, citing their decades of experience to support the club’s Premier League push. He added that Lubner and Vaughn share Benham’s vision and have aided commercial and community growth.
Melwani said he has long admired Brentford’s progress under Benham and the executive team, and that he is excited to join the ownership group and contribute to future growth.
Community work remains central, with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust supporting vulnerable groups in west London. Lubner said social impact was key to his increased backing and welcomed the new directors and investors to help expand the initiative.
Vaughn pointed to momentum on the pitch and a strong off-field set-up. The expanded board is intended to create new commercial opportunities.
