Brentford B 1 Swansea City U21s 1: Fábio Carvalho returns from injury in draw with Swans | OneFootball

Fábio Carvalho made his return to the pitch from an ACL injury as Brentford B drew 1-1 with Swansea City Under-21s in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Jersey Road on Wednesday.

Ji-soo Kim and Julian Eyestone also featured in the game, as Michel Boni's goal early in the second half was matched by a Swans' goal late on in the clash.

Carvalho joined Sam Saunders’ side in sunny conditions in west London, the midfielder enjoying his first match minutes since injuring his ACL last November.

The young Bees started the clash with their usual high intensity, putting Swansea under pressure in their own half with a strong press.

It saw the west Londoners win the ball back on five minutes through Theo Mawene, who immediately played the ball to Luca Picotto down the left side of the box. His cross found Boni in the middle of the area, but the striker put his shot over the bar.

Three minutes later, a well-placed cross from Trialist A on the right side only just missed Boni making a run through the middle of the box, but found Picotto at the back post. He immediately fired at goal, but his shot was kept out by the Swansea goalkeeper.

Carvalho continued to grow into the game in his return to the pitch and was played through by a Riley Owen free-kick on 19 minutes down the right side of the box. The midfielder immediately shot across his body, but his effort was blocked.

The visitors enjoyed a period of momentum in the windy Jersey Road conditions and came close to scoring on 32 minutes as they found space on the left side of the box, but the shot was kept out by Eyestone in goal for the Bees.

Boni continued to put himself in good positions without providing the finishing touches. As half-time approached, Joseph Wheeler-Henry put a pinpoint cross in from the right side, but Boni’s header sailed over the bar.

The hosts replicated their start from the first half as the second 45 minutes got under way, but this time saw immediate reward.

Breaking through the middle of the pitch in Swansea’s half on 48 minutes, Mawene put the ball in front of Boni, the striker taking a touch to his right in the box and putting the ball in the bottom-right corner for the opener.

Two minutes later, the Swans broke through on the counter attack into Brentford’s box, but their shot was kept out by new recruit Aidan Stokes, who replaced Eyestone at half-time.

The visitors had back-to-back chances as the game entered its last 20 minutes. A neat cross from the right side was headed to the back post, but the ensuing header smashed into the post.

Less than a minute later the ball was played into the middle of the box, the Swansea shot sailing over the bar.

With 13 minutes to play the Swans found themselves on the counter attack, moving the ball to the right side of the box. The ensuing shot was on target, but well kept out by Stokes.

The dam wall broke on 83 minutes as Swansea equalised. A cross from the right side found a free man at the back post. The ball played to the middle of the box and sent into the back of the net.

The Swans almost found a late winner as they broke out on another counter attack soon after and crossed the ball into the box from the right side, but the effort sailed over the bar.
