Brentford have reportedly opened discussions with Liverpool over a potential summer move for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, according to Sky Sports.

Kelleher has emerged as a prime target following his impressive performances as Alisson Becker’s understudy. Liverpool want more than £20 million for him.

The Bees have contacted Liverpool to explore the possibility of a permanent transfer as they prepare for the impending departure of Mark Flekken, who is expected to join Bayer Leverkusen.

Kelleher has long been admired at the Gtech Community Stadium for his shot-stopping ability and calmness under pressure.

He has stepped up admirably on numerous occasions during Liverpool’s domestic cup campaigns, most notably in the 2022 League Cup final against Chelsea.

For Kelleher, the opportunity to become a first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League could prove too tempting to turn down.

The Irishman is set to face increased competition for playing time next season, with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to join the goalkeeping ranks at Anfield.

Both clubs have a harmonious working relationship, having concluded permanent deals for Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg to move to London last summer.

If a transfer for Kelleher materialises, it could mark the beginning of a new chapter for a talented Premier League-level goalkeeper finally stepping out of the shadows and into a starring role.
