Brentford are preparing a January move for Borussia Dortmund’s 19-year-old left-back Almugera Kabar. The Premier League club are reportedly ready to invest around €20 million to bring the German youth international to West London, viewing him as a player tailor-made for English football, according to Bild.

“Brentford are very keen on Dortmund’s defensive jewel Almugera Kabar,” the report stated, describing the teenager as the perfect profile for the Premier League. At 1.86 metres tall, Kabar is considered robust, physically strong and technically excellent.
Bild add that Brentford have “already made contact with the left-back” and are willing to pay the suggested €20 million fee. The club’s recruitment team are said to view him as a long-term project and potential fixture in their defence.

Dortmund would ideally prefer to keep hold of Kabar and benefit from his development over the coming seasons. He signed his first professional contract in February, committing his future to the club until 2028, and previously turned down approaches from Barcelona and AC Milan.
Even in the summer, when Dortmund considered loaning him out to get more game time, “there were numerous suitors,” Bild noted. However, Kabar remains behind Daniel Svensson and Ramy Bensebaini in Niko Kovač’s pecking order, with just five senior appearances and 135 minutes played this season.
Dortmund’s connection with English football has been strong this year. The club signed Jobe Bellingham, Fábio Silva, Carney Chukwuemeka and Aarón Anselmino from the UK, while selling Jamie Gittens to Chelsea for €65 million.

Bild point out that Dortmund have also raised funds by selling young talents like Soumaïla Coulibaly to Strasbourg and Youssoufa Moukoko to Copenhagen. That could open the door to another sale if the price is right.

Bild pose the question: “Will Brentford now make their move for Kabar instead?” suggesting that the Bees could act quickly in January to secure one of Germany’s brightest defensive prospects.
This is exactly the sort of smart, ambitious move that defines Brentford’s transfer model. Almugera Kabar has everything they look for: youth, technical quality, physical presence and resale potential. At 19, he has already won the U17 World Cup and European Championship, which speaks volumes about his mentality and experience in high-pressure environments.
Paying €20 million may feel like a big outlay for Brentford, but the potential reward is enormous. Signing a player who could become one of the Bundesliga’s top full-backs in a few years is a statement that Brentford can compete with bigger clubs in the market.
Supporters will also like the timing. A January arrival would give Kabar six months to settle into the league before a full pre-season, positioning him as a key figure next year. As long as the club stay true to their philosophy and secure a deal on the right terms, this feels like an exciting step forward in Brentford’s evolution.
