Brentford manager Thomas Frank has offered his thoughts on Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid in midweek.
The Gunners sealed an emphatic 3-0 victory against Los Blancos in the quarter-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium.
Declan Rice scored two outrageous free-kicks after half-time. Mikel Merino added a third with a superb finish to spark euphoria among the home crowd.
Arsenal look in complete control of the tie, but they must survive another 90 minutes against Carlo Ancelotti’s side at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid are the most successful team in Champions League history, winning the title 15 times.
They can overturn the deficit in the second leg, but Brentford boss Thomas Frank thinks the English giants will progress to the semi-finals.
Frank said in his post-match press conference: “Mikel and his coaches have shown how good they are and how much they’ve progressed as a club.
“He has done an exceptional job to make Arsenal extremely competitive for the last three years.
“They are in a good position. Looking from the outside, Arsenal work hard and they are very good defensively.
“They’re very good on defensive set-pieces. So I think they’ll be fine.”
Arsenal drew 1-1 with Brentford in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.
Thomas Partey broke the deadlock for the hosts on the hour mark, but Yoane Wissa levelled the scores with a clinical finish to salvage a draw.
However, the Gunners’ main priority now is the Champions League, as evidenced by Mikel Arteta’s five changes to the team against the Bees yesterday.
