Liverpool’s troubles deepened in west London as Brentford produced a deserved 3-2 victory at the Gtech Community Stadium, condemning Arne Slot’s side to a fourth straight Premier League defeat.
The hosts flew out of the blocks, and their trademark long throw did the damage once again - Michael Kayode launched it in, Kristoffer Ajer flicked on, and Dango Ouattara finished smartly to put the hosts ahead inside five minutes.
The reigning champions looked rattled and were fortunate not to fall further behind before half-time. But just before the interval, Brentford doubled their lead in style - Mikkel Damsgaard slicing open Liverpool’s fragile backline with a superb pass for Kevin Schade, who coolly slotted home.
The visitors found a lifeline right before the break when Milos Kerkez scrambled in from close range after a flick-on, but it did little to shift the momentum.
A VAR review on the hour saw Virgil Van Dijk penalised for a foul on Ouattara right on the edge of the area, and Igor Thiago calmly rolled in the resulting penalty to make it 3-1.
Mohamed Salah’s late goal - an instinctive volley from close range - set up a frantic finale, yet the Bees held firm to seal another famous home win.
Liverpool stay sixth, four points off top spot, but worryingly adrift in form and confidence. Brentford, meanwhile, continue to thrive under Keith Andrews, climbing into the top half with their fourth victory of the campaign.
