Brentford stun Tottenham to ruin De Zerbi's Premier League start | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a disastrous start to the Premier League season as Brentford cruised to a 3-0 victory at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Spurs invested more than £200m during the summer following last season's struggles, but Roberto De Zerbi's new-look side were completely outplayed in west London.

Brentford deservedly went ahead after 12 minutes when club-record signing Mamadou Sangaré combined with Dango Ouattara before setting up Keane Lewis-Potter, who calmly finished from inside the area.

The hosts continued to dominate and doubled their advantage before half-time. Antonin Kinský could only parry Mathias Jensen's powerful effort, allowing Vitaly Janelt to react quickest and tap into an empty net.

De Zerbi made two changes at the interval, but Spurs' misery continued almost immediately after the restart. Sangaré's effort was saved by Kinský, only for Michael Kayode to follow up and fire home Brentford's third.

The Bees were close to add a fourth when Rodrigo Bentancur brought down Kevin Schade inside the box. However, Igor Thiago struck the post from the resulting penalty.

Mikey Moore was denied several times by Caoimhín Kelleher as Spurs searched for a consolation, but Brentford comfortably held on to secure a memorable opening-day victory.
