Brentford host Tottenham Hotspur at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday evening in the opening match of a season that carries genuine expectation after last term’s ninth-placed finish.
Keith Andrews has signed a contract extension to 2032, a clear statement of intent from a club that missed European football only on goal difference last season. Saturday offers the chance to show that progress was no fluke.
Sepp van den Berg is ruled out with a groin problem, meaning Kristoffer Ajer is expected to partner captain Nathan Collins at the heart of the defence. Yehor Yarmolyuk is also unavailable. Antoni Milambo, working his way back from a serious knee injury, remains a game-time decision and his involvement will likely be confirmed closer to kick-off. Beyond those absences, Andrews has a fully fit squad to select from.
Record signing Mamadou Sangaré, who arrived from Lens for a club-record fee, is expected to be handed his Premier League debut. The Mali international slots into a midfield trio alongside Vitaly Janelt and Mathias Jensen, two of the club’s longest-serving players, having already scored in Brentford’s 7–0 pre-season demolition of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade provide the width either side of Igor Thiago, whose 22 Premier League goals last season put him second only to Erling Haaland among the division’s scorers. Caoimhín Kelleher continues in goal behind a back four of Michael Kayode, Ajer, Collins and Keane Lewis-Potter.
Brentford possible starting XI (4-3-3): Kelleher; Kayode, Ajer, Collins, Lewis-Potter; Janelt, Sangare, Jensen; Ouattara, Thiago, Schade
The Premier League match kicks off at 17:30 BST on Saturday, 22 August 2026.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event in the UK.
