Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has confirmed striker Kaye Furo underwent surgery on Monday morning after sustaining a training knock last week.

According to Hounslow Herald, Andrews did not disclose the specifics, saying the decision followed scans and a specialist consultation, and that the focus is on a safe return.

The update came only hours after Furo was named PL2 Player of the Month for August, having scored four goals and one assist for the B Team in the development league.

Andrews said he would have started the 19-year-old against Reading in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, describing the timing as unfortunate and noting the forward was trending well. He added that instant success is often unrealistic and praised Furo’s diligent work behind the scenes.

Brentford signed the Belgian youth international from Club Brugge in January for around £8.5m. He made two FA Cup appearances last season and a one-minute Premier League debut. He has yet to feature for the first team this campaign.
