Ben Brereton Diaz is back at Southampton after a season on loan at Derby County, and his future remains unsettled. According to Sainstmarching.com, Sheffield United are considering a move to re-sign him.
The 27-year-old played the first half of a recent 1-0 friendly win over Eintracht Braunschweig.
He knows Bramall Lane after two loans, first in the second half of 2023/24 then again the following campaign. Derby could also return after seven goals and three assists last term.
Those are solid numbers, though unlikely to fix a side that finished 13th and changed managers twice. Talk of a reunion in late May failed to convince and little has changed.
For Southampton, interest offers an exit route. Signed from Villarreal in 2024 for around £7 million, he is still without a goal in 15 appearances.
His fit is awkward, neither an out-and-out striker nor a natural left winger, making a starting spot in Tonda Eckert's front line unlikely.
He has 64 Championship goals and 26 assists in 270 games, but none of it has translated in a Saints shirt. One view in late May had him as the first to move on.
Under contract until June 2028, Southampton control any sale. They start 2026/27 on minus four after being thrown out of last season's play-off final over spygate, so funds would help. Any deal would be on the Saints' terms.
