Marco Brescianini said Atalanta was ‘in my destiny’ after scoring twice on his debut against Lecce, just six days after a Napoli move collapsed following a medical.
The midfielder has had really quite the week building up to this moment at the Stadio Via del Mare.
Last Tuesday, he had a medical for Napoli and was all set to complete the transfer from Frosinone when suddenly the club tried to change the terms of the deal, irritating the Canarini.
They withdrew and Atalanta swooped in, sealing his signature for €12m and throwing him straight into the mix to start the Serie A opener against Lecce, where he scored two goals in a 4-0 victory.
“It was a perfect debut, I always dreamed and hoped it would be like this,” Brescianini told DAZN.
“It is almost even better than I could’ve imagined. I think Bergamo was always in my destiny, because I was born nearby in Calcinate and am very happy to be wearing this jersey. I hope to repay the faith shown in me by the club and all the supporters.”
Decimated by injuries and transfer rebels like Ademola Lookman and Teun Koopmeiners, the Bergamo boys still dominated Lecce 4-0 and the other two goals were scored by fellow newcomer Mateo Retegui.
“I am very pleased with our performance, the fans were cheering us on and that got us fired up. Now we have another week to work in training, I still have to learn the movements that the coach wants,” added Brescianini.
The 24-year-old had only scored four previous Serie A goals in 37 appearances.
