Stade Brestois are bracing for the possible exit of sporting director Grégory Lorenzi, with Yohan Cabaye under consideration as his replacement.
According to L'Équipe, Lorenzi could leave after a decade, with talks opened with Nice, who appear to see him as Florian Maurice's successor.
The 42-year-old will not go without lining up a successor, and Brest's lean hierarchy leaves him best placed to lead the search. He has sounded out Cabaye, PSG's academy sporting director.
Cabaye, 40, has run the PSG academy since October 2024, after roles as youth coordinator then deputy sporting director. The former France midfielder won 48 caps and scored four goals.
He gained the UEFA Pro licence this year and completed the CDES Limoges general management diploma in 2023. That 12th cohort also recognised Lorenzi, and the pair have stayed close, meeting recently in Paris.
Cabaye received a warning earlier this year after a CSE inquiry into his management, but kept his job. His academy sides are in the semi-finals of the Coupe Gambardella, under-18, and the UEFA Youth League, under-19.
The northerner enjoys Paris but feels ready to step up as a Ligue 1 sporting director. If Brest's seat opens in the coming weeks, it could be a useful launchpad, though major tasks await, notably many deals ending in 2027.
