Sunderland have been linked with Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye as Everton weigh a midfield reshuffle, while fresh Juventus noise surrounds Brian Brobbey.

According to TEAMtalk, Everton are considering Gueye, with Crystal Palace, Brighton and Sunderland also monitoring the Senegal international after a strong season and World Cup. Meanwhile, Tuttomercatoweb claims Juventus have been offered Brobbey, with about £30.1m to £34.4m said to open talks as he is viewed as a possible alternative to Randal Kolo Muani.

Idrissa Gana Gueye is now a free agent following the expiry of his Everton deal and remains on World Cup duty with Senegal, though talks could be revisited once his tournament ends. Everton are also expected to complete Hayden Hackney for an initial £16.5m, yet Gueye’s departure could still leave David Moyes’ side seeking another midfielder.

Pape Gueye joined Villarreal from Marseille in 2024 and has become an influential figure in LaLiga, comfortable as a defensive midfielder and in a box-to-box role.

The reported Brobbey figure feels difficult to believe from a Sunderland standpoint. He arrived last summer and is central to the club’s Premier League project, so any suggestion they would entertain such a deal should be treated with caution.

It also seems hard to imagine Sunderland offering him around amid the Granit Xhaka saga, with uncertainty already surrounding a key player. The valuation appears presumptive given Brobbey’s status and contract, and any serious conversation would likely require a significantly higher price.

Brobbey is set to return after the Netherlands’ World Cup exit, having enhanced his reputation. Sunderland will hope to reintegrate a key attacker quickly ahead of pre-season and the Premier League campaign.
