Claims that Brian Brobbey is set “to leave” Sunderland in a record deal have been dismissed, with no bid lodged and no pressure to sell.
FootballTransfers claimed the striker would depart this summer for around €40 million, about £34 million, with Bayern Munich credited with strong interest. As it stands, that suggestion is understood to be wide of the mark.
There is no agreement in place for Brobbey to leave, and there is no indication Bayern have submitted an official bid. Assertions that he is actively on course for an exit have been rubbished.
Brobbey joined from Ajax last summer in a deal worth about €20 million, around £17 million, and signed a five-year contract. The move was completed on deadline day after loanee Marc Guiu returned to parent club Chelsea amid an attacking injury crisis. He has six goals and one assist in his first Premier League season, leaving Sunderland in a strong position.
A significant offer could change the picture as the summer window approaches, but there is no sign a departure is imminent or that talks are close.
After his late winner at St James’ Park against Newcastle and a strong display against Tottenham following the international break, Le Bris highlighted Brobbey’s recent strides. He said the striker’s fitness and understanding with team-mates have grown, making Sunderland harder to press through the middle, and noted continued improvement in the final third.
