Brian Sorensen’s Everton lost 2-0 to Tottenham in their first loss at Goodison Park this season
Everton manager Brian Sorensen was left disappointed with his team’s effort on Sunday as the Toffees fell to defeat at home to Tottenham.
The loss was Everton’s first at Goodison Park this season as Spurs spoiled a fairytale afternoon.
Everton’s dreams of opening Goodison Park with a win were crushed over the weekend.
The Toffees were dominated by Tottenham in their first WSL clash at home this year as Spurs came out 2-0 winners on the road.
Goals from Olga Ahtinen and Cathinka Tandberg sunk Everton with 6,473 fans in attendance.
After the game, Brian Sorensen claimed that his side didn’t have the cutting-edge required to score against Tottenham.
“Unfortunately, individually, we weren’t sharp enough and didn’t take the ball as well as we normally do. And we did it was too late,” he said.
“Collectively, when we were pressing it was also a bit off. The half-time talk was good, we started to get a bit of momentum but then came the mistake and they scored the second goal.
“After that it was hard, as they were sitting in and didn’t want to expose themselves.”
Despite the loss to Tottenham, Everton can’t be too disheartened at the start of this season. Sorensen’s team crushed Liverpool 4-1 away from home in their WSL curtain raiser and still have a good platform to build on this year.
Following Sunday’s defeat, Sorensen made it clear that he is keen to move on from the loss.
“The good thing in football is that there is not so long to the next game so we will regroup throughout the week and make sure we are ready for London City on Friday.”
The London City Lionesses could provide Everton with a good opportunity to bounce back immediately.
Newly-promoted Lionesses have been thrashed in both of their league games this season.
With that being said, nobody had a tougher start to the campaign than London City Lionesses. Arsenal and Manchester United welcomed the team to the top flight in a brutal manor with nine goals conceded already.
Everton will host London City Lionesses on Friday night in their second game at Goodison Park this season.
