France international goalkeeper Brice Samba (30) has confirmed that he will remain at Racing Club de Lens this season. Speaking to La Voix du Nord, the former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper has committed his short-term future to the Artois side, with which he is tied with a contract set to expire in 2028. Samba renewed his contract last year. “I am very happy to be at Lens. I’m very proud to be this team’s skipper. I’ll be Lensois this season”, the Le Havre youth product has added.
Since joining RC Lens two years ago, Samba has established himself as one of Ligue 1’s most reliable goalkeepers. His performances earned him a spot in Didier Deschamps’ France set-up, asserting himself as Les Bleus‘ No. 2 behind Milan’s Mike Maignan in the goalkeepers’ hierarchy.
Samba notably heaped praises on RC Lens’ newly-appointed head coach Will Still, who is just one year older than him. “I am pleasantly surprised, particularly by its simplicity. I get along well with him and it’s certainly due to his age, we are quite close. He is uncompromising and he pushes us every day in training.”
Lens made a good start in their Ligue 1 campaign by defeating promoted side Angers SCO. Samba’s Les Sang et Or will host Stade Brestois this Sunday afternoon.
