Michael Bridges has hailed Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a driving force behind Leeds United’s recent results. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the England forward has eased concerns over his fitness since arriving on a free in the summer.
He scored his first Leeds goal on his third appearance at Wolves, then went seven matches without finding the net. A finish in the 3-2 loss at Manchester City sparked a surge that reached nine in 13 with Friday’s 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.
That Forest goal also took him to double figures in Premier League goals for the first time since 2020/21.
Bridges said he had often seen the striker play through pain at Everton and that his body language suggested he was not enjoying his football. He believes Calvert-Lewin now has a new lease of life, playing with a smile that makes a real difference. Bridges called him a top player.
After the Forest win, Calvert-Lewin said hitting double figures is the basic target for a number nine, adding he is hungry for more and working daily to improve and keep scoring. He described it as an all-round team display, well disciplined and well managed in difficult conditions.
Calvert-Lewin will lead the line at Chelsea on Tuesday night, having scored against the Blues in December’s reverse fixture. He goes to Stamford Bridge with Bridges’ backing.
