Brighton and Sunderland will be light on options at the Amex next Saturday, with nine absentees through AFCON or suspensions.

According to TheArgus.co.uk, Lewis Dunk and Carlos Baleba reached five bookings in Albion’s 2-0 defeat at Liverpool, triggering one-match bans. Diego Gomez is also set to be absent.

Referee Craig Pawson played advantage before cautioning Dunk once the move stopped. Dunk’s foul involved former team-mate Alexis Mac Allister. VAR checked Gomez’s high boot on Florian Wirtz late in the first half.

The Black Cats avoided extra suspensions in Sunday’s win over Newcastle despite five bookings. Granit Xhaka remains on four yellows. Mats Wieffer and Ferdi Kadioglu are one caution from a ban.

Sunderland lost Luke O’Nien to suspension after a straight red card at Manchester City last weekend.

They also have five players heading to AFCON, Chemsdine Talbi (Morocco), Reinildo (Mozambique), Bertrand Traore (Burkina Faso), Arthur Masuaku (DR Congo) and Noah Sadiki (DR Congo). Of those, all but Masuaka started the derby win.

Former Albion winger Simon Adingra was a surprise omission from the Ivory Coast squad.
