In a recent post on X, journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Brighton and Hove Albion are looking to recruit Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell. It has been stated that the French club has turned down a €24m proposal from the Seagulls for the English centre-back this month.
Cresswell has enjoyed a decent run of form at the French club after he produced a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 23-year-old has registered three goals and earned a couple of assists in 20 matches for Toulouse this season in all competitions.
The English talent has been a rock at the back for the French club and is currently among the best young defenders in Ligue 1. Hence, the Seagulls would do well to get a deal over the line for him this month.
His current contract at Toulouse will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, it won’t be easy for Brighton to sign him on the cheap in this ongoing transfer window.

Cresswell is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and can play his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.90m, the English talent can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he is still unproven at the highest level and would need time to prove his worth in top-flight football if the Seagulls manage to sign him.
We can expect Cresswell to bring more quality and depth to Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler’s defence. He is more than capable of securing a regular first-team spot at the American Express Community Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 23, Cresswell has got his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for the Seagulls to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. However, Hurzeler has to give him some time to adjust to life in the Premier League if Brighton manage to bring him on board this year.
