In a recent post on X, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Brighton and Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke is open to joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer. It has been mentioned that Spurs are set to resume their talks with the Seagulls this week to sign the Dutch centre-back in this transfer period.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a good run of form at Brighton in the previous campaign when he produced a run of impressive performances for them in the Premier League. Van Hecke scored three times and grabbed three assists in 40 matches for the Seagulla last season in all competitions.
The Dutch talent is currently among the best centre-backs in the Premier League. Hence, it is no wonder that Spurs are hoping to get a deal over the line for him this off-season.
His current deal at the American Express Community Stadium will run out at the end of next season, which could open the door for Tottenham to sign him on the cheap this summer.

Van Hecke is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn possession back for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his strong 1.89m frame to win a few important headers for his side.
The Dutch sensation can even play his way out from the back. Van Hecke has already got some experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Tottenham.
We can expect him to add more bite and steel to Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi’s defence. He has what it takes to nail down a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.
At 26, Van Hecke is about to enter his prime, which makes him a worthy target for the North London club to pursue in this summer transfer window. All in all, he would be an excellent choice for Spurs to consider this off-season as long as they can get him for a reasonable price.
