According to Football Italia, Brighton & Hove Albion have submitted a bid of around €34m (£30m) for Italy and Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor, one year after his move from Genoa.

Atalanta paid €20m to sign Ahanor last summer, a fee that made him the second most expensive Italian 17-year-old on record.

Now 18, he has made 41 senior appearances, nine in the Champions League, and his form has begun to draw interest from outside Serie A.

Ahanor recently won his first Italy caps under interim coach Silvio Baldini, who selected a squad made up almost entirely of U21 players for friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece earlier this month.

It remains to be seen whether Brighton’s proposal will be enough to convince Atalanta. The club are not under pressure to sell, having already secured €105m from Chelsea and Manchester United through the imminent sales of Marco Palestra and Ederson.
