Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Diego Gomez has signed a new five-year contract, with an option of a further year.
Sporting director Mike Cave said the club were pleased to secure his long-term future, highlighting his seamless adaptation to Premier League football and his status as a key member of the squad. He added they believe he will continue to develop and remain important this season and beyond.
The versatile 23-year-old has been rewarded for consistent performances across positions since an £11million move from MLS side Inter Miami in January 2025.
Gomez has made 56 appearances under head coach Fabian Hurzeler. He scored 10 goals in all competitions last season, including four in a 6-0 win away to Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
He came through Libertad’s youth system in Paraguay before moving in June 2023 to Inter Miami, where he played alongside Lionel Messi. He has 20 senior caps, the last four at this summer’s World Cup.
Hurzeler has used him on the wings, at No 10 and in central midfield.
Brighton finish pre-season with Bologna at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, before the first leg away to Norwegian side Tromso in the Europa Conference League play-off round on Thursday. They host Aston Villa three days later.
