According to WeAreBrighton.com, Jan Paul van Hecke posted 7.88 in March, the highest monthly Brighton score of the 2025-26 season so far.
Brighton’s league form flipped, from two wins in 14 across December to February to three wins from four in March. They beat Nottingham Forest at the Amex, lost 1-0 to Arsenal, then won at Sunderland and against Liverpool.
Van Hecke was commanding throughout and looked ready for Champions League football. With no new deal and 12 months left this summer, it looks increasingly likely he will not be a Seagull in 2026-27.
Five others scored seven or better, underlining Fabian Hurzeler’s revival. Yankuba Minteh started twice, hit the winner at Sunderland and sparkled against Liverpool. James Milner’s knowhow alongside Pascal Gross stiffened midfield.
Ferdi Kadioglu impressed at both ends, his delivery recycled by Diego Gomez for Danny Welbeck to open the scoring in the Liverpool win.
Welbeck netted three in three, a double past Liverpool a day after his England omission and the decisive strike against Forest.
Mats Wieffer had arguably his best month at right back, subduing Florian Wirtz against Liverpool. Bart Verbruggen responded to Bukayo Saka’s deflected strike through his legs with big saves at Sunderland and versus Liverpool.
Kaoru Mitoma returned from injury to trouble Liverpool off the bench. He then scored the only goal at Wembley as Japan recorded their first ever win over England.
