Brighton put ten-man Coventry to the sword | OneFootball

Brighton & Hove Albion took advantage of their superior numbers to defeat Coventry City by five goals to nil.

The Seagulls were already two goals to the good by the time the Sky Blues were reduced to 10 men with the first coming in the 35th minute when Charalampos Kostoulas showed great feet to get away from his defender before firing low and hard into the corner.

The second came shortly after the restart when Malick Yalcouyé muscled his way through the Coventry defence before finishing past Carl Rushworth. Things got worse for Frank Lampard's side just seconds later when Taiwo Awoniyi was given a straight red card for using an elbow.

Brighton's third goal arrived from the penalty spot when Bobby Thomas was penalised for leaving his leg out to bring down Kostoulas. Pascal Gross made no mistake from the spot drilling his effort into the bottom right corner.

It was four in the 83rd minute after a special strike from Lewis Dunk. The defender had plenty of time and space to pick his spot and arrowed in an effort from 25 yards out.

The rout was wrapped up in stoppage time with another fine strike, this time it was Yasin Ayari receiving the ball on the edge of the area before finding the corner.

That result means Coventry City remain bottom of the Premier League having lost all four of their games this season while Brighton are up to fourth.
