Brighton are set to sign Colombian midfielder Matias Orozco, 18, after agreeing a deal with Deportivo Cali. He has travelled to the UK to finalise the move.
According to NY Times, the deep-lying playmaker broke into Cali’s first team last season. He has 24 Primera appearances and will be loaned out by Brighton to gain experience.
Brighton followed a similar pathway with Moises Caicedo, bought for £4m in February 2021 and loaned to Beerschot. He made 53 appearances before a £115m move to Chelsea in August 2023.
Brighton are also keen to sign Millwall forward Femi Azeez amid a busy window that has seen eight arrivals and 10 departures or loans. Azeez has 13 goals in 70 second-tier games and made the 2025-26 PFA Championship team of the season after 11 goals and eight assists.
Fabian Hurzeler has lowered the squad’s average age, and depth is needed for the Conference League. Six matches will be added in the group phase if Thursday’s home play-off against Tromso is safely negotiated after last week’s 0-0 first leg.
Sales have continued, with Carlos Baleba joining Manchester United for £70m after Jan Paul van Hecke’s £52m switch to Tottenham and Danny Welbeck’s move to Chelsea. Liverpool bids of £50m and £60m for Yankuba Minteh have been rejected. Spending could exceed £130m after Algerian left-back Jaouen Hadjam arrived from Young Boys for £9.5m, led by Luka Vuskovic’s club-record £46m move from Tottenham, in a bid to build on successive eighth-placed finishes.
