The club said in a statement that Brighton & Hove Albion were shocked and saddened after a 72-year-old supporter died following Sunday’s season opener against Aston Villa.
The man became unwell in the coach park as he left the Amex Stadium to board a supporters’ club bus, and the medical team could not resuscitate him.
Paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service, St John’s Ambulance, Sussex Police, MB Medical Solutions, the club’s crowd doctor and stewards worked together to provide care, including prolonged CPR at the scene.
Chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber conveyed the club’s sympathy and offered condolences to the man’s family and friends.
The fixture was Brighton’s first Premier League match of the 2026-27 season at the Amex Stadium.
