Manchester City travel down to the south coast, where they take on Brighton this weekend looking to get back on track after a puzzling loss last time out.
When Pep Guardiolal’s side welcomed Tottenham to the Etihad Stadium for their home opener, many speculated the match would be far from a walk in the park, and they were more than right.
Thomas Frank’s North London visitors opened the scoring when Brennan Johnson found the back of the net, capitalising on a high Manchester City defensive line and beating James Trafford despite the England international getting a hand to the Welshman’s effort.
Joao Palhinha would then double Spurs’ tally in the moments leading up to half-time, as Trafford – making his second consecutive start for Manchester City ahead of Ederson – made a costly error passing the ball out from the back.
The hosts for Sunday’s match share a similar story to Manchester City, losing 2-0 against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and will be hoping to get back on track against a side they defeated at home last season.
Ahead of the contest this weekend, here is everything you need to know!
Manchester City will take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon, with kick-off scheduled at the American Express Stadium at 14:00 BST.
The Premier League have confirmed that Darren England will be the match referee for the match at the Amex Stadium, while Paul Tierney will occupy the Video Assistant Referee role from Stockley Park.

While Rayan Cherki started last weekend against Tottenham, that will not be the case on Sunday, as he has been ruled out of the match due to a thigh injury, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.
The France international star bagged a goal on his Manchester City debut earlier in the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but will now be eyeing a return to action after the upcoming international break.
A similar story applies to Phil Foden, who will also reportedly miss this weekend’s fixture owing to an injury, with little further details on the England international’s absence ahead of the contest.
Another player who featured against Spurs last week was Rayan Ait-Nouri, who saw his action come to an early end in the 23rd minute due to an ankle knock. However, it appears he will be available, as Pep Guardiola confirmed during a recent press conference.
On the uneasiness surrounding the squad amidst transfer rumours
“For the fact it will be clear, the mood, the vibe for the players and uncertainties for some, it could be better. But on Monday, it will happen, or maybe the transfer window in Turkey or Saudi [Arabia] is a little longer.”
Over the last five meetings between the two sides, the Blue side of Manchester has managed to come away with two wins over the Seagulls, in comparison to their single win.
For viewers in the United Kingdom, you can view Sunday’s match on Sky Sports.
For viewers in the United States, you can view the Cityzens’ match on Peacock, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 a.m. EST.
