Bristol City are weighing up a late bid from Turkish side Goztepe for striker Sinclair Armstrong.
Turkish side Goztepe have made a last-minute transfer offer for out-of-favour Bristol City striker Sinclair Armstrong.
Sky Sports Transfer Centre (8th September, 21:40) are claiming that an offer of €1 million is on the table for Armstrong to depart, as well as a loan with the option to buy. Bristol City are said to be weighing up their options now.
It remains to be seen whether Goztepe will be able to strike a deal with Bristol City over the coming days, but Sky Sports report that Armstrong is "not in their plans", while they also reveal that the striker is keen to depart Ashton Gate and join the Turkish outfit.
According to Sky Sports Transfer Centre (8th September, 21:40), Goztepe have made an offer worth £868,000 (€1 million) for Armstrong as they look to bring him to Turkey before the end of their transfer window, which closes on Friday.
Goztepe's offer for Armstrong is either for a permanent move immediately or for a loan deal with an option to buy included, and Bristol City are currently said to be "considering" their proposal as they weigh up whether to allow the 22-year-old to depart.
As FLW exclusively revealed last month, the Robins were ready to offload Armstrong this summer, just a year after he made the move from Queens Park Rangers for a fee of £2.5 million, and while he did not secure an exit during the English transfer window, it seems could now be handed a lifeline by Goztepe.
Armstrong has struggled to make an impact after his big-money move to Bristol City last summer, and he scored just three goals in 38 appearances in his debut season at Ashton Gate, but he was part of the side that reached the Championship play-offs for the first time since 2008.
With Gerhard Struber replacing Liam Manning in the summer following his departure to Norwich City, Armstrong would have been hoping for a fresh start this season, and chairman Jon Lansdown predicted the striker and teammate Fally Mayulu would thrive under the club's new head coach.
"Gerhard often plays with two up top, it's a completely different thing. It gives a new lease of life to your Fally's and Sinclair - they will be a really good fit for this style," Lansdown told the BBC.
"We we still need more because you might have two playing up there rather than one. It's things we're already thinking and already on."
However, the change of management has done little to change Armstrong's fortunes, with all three of his appearances in the league this season coming from the bench, and he was an unused substitute for his side's 4-2 home win over Hull City before the international break.
It appears Armstrong has been deemed surplus to requirements by Struber, and with Bristol City willing to sanction his departure, they could now be set to reach an agreement with Goztepe, who currently sit third in the Turkish Süper Lig after picking up eight points from their first four games.
Armstrong is a player with a lot of potential, but he has been unable to nail down a regular place in the team at Bristol City, and with Emil Riis firmly ahead of him in the pecking order, it seems unlikely he will receive regular minutes this season.
With Goztepe's bid believed to be worth less than £1 million, the Robins may be reluctant to take such a big hit on the striker after paying £2.5 million for him last summer, but as there are only a few days left in the Turkish transfer window, there is not much time for negotiation.
